An update from the Oxford Winter Night Shelter.

Despite enjoying some warm autumn days, winter is approaching and OWNS (Oxford Winter Night Shelter) is preparing to give shelter to people who sleep on the streets of our city from January to March.  This winter OWNS will increase the beds from 10 – 20, using two venues each night.  All the churches that hosted the shelter last winter are once again opening their doors.  Several of them will be hosting two nights a week, and five new centres have offered their accommodation and are in the process of ensuring they are safe and suitable.

At the same time training for volunteers is underway.

What can individuals, churches or other organisations do?

  • Donate money. You can do this via the website or by cheque payable to Oxford Winter Night Shelter and send it to The Secretary, OWNS, c/o St Michael at the North Gate, Cornmarket, Oxford OX1 3EY
  • It’s not too late.  Three more training sessions are being held in November (you only have to attend one).  If you are interested, contact our Project Manager,
  • Donate consumables, bedding etc. Please check our website for details.
  • Keep OWNS and the guests that will come to our shelters in your thoughts and prayers.
